Prenatal Classes and Maternity Tours

Breastfeeding classes at The Women’s Hospital at Jackson Memorial are taught by a lactation specialist in the Little Miracles Family Resource Center. Our breastfeeding classes can be taken in one of two ways, as part of the prenatal education class series or as a standalone course, which also includes information on baby care and safety enhanced by our partnership with Injury Free Coalition for Kids of Miami.

Join us for a convenient, one-day weekend session designed for parents-to-be. Start with a Maternity Tour at The Women’s Pavilion at Jackson North from 3 to 4:15 p.m., where you’ll visit our labor and delivery and postpartum units. After a short break, continue with our Breastfeeding Class from 4:30 to 6 p.m., covering the benefits of breastfeeding, how to prepare, what to expect in the first days, and tips on pumping.

At The Women’s Hospital at Jackson Memorial, our prenatal education classes are designed to be taken in sequential order. The class series is broken into three classes, including labor and delivery, variations of delivery and medical interventions, breastfeeding, baby care, and safety. Our class series is enhanced by our partnership with Injury Free Coalition for Kids of Miami. The final class will include hands-on safety education designed to build awareness for parents and caregivers on the most common household dangers for infants and children.

The Women’s Pavilion at Jackson North offers tours in English only. Tours begin promptly at the start time. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to start time.

Prenatal Education Class Series
The Women’s Hospital at Jackson Memorial offers a three-class prenatal education series to help expectant parents prepare for childbirth and caring for their new baby.

Classes are designed to be taken in order and cover the following topics:

Labor and delivery: Learn what to expect during childbirth.
Delivery options and medical interventions: Understand different ways to give birth and the medical care that may be needed.
Breastfeeding: Learn the basics of feeding your baby.
Baby care: Build skills and confidence in caring for your newborn.
Home and child safety: In partnership with the Injury Free Coalition for Kids of Miami, the final class includes hands-on safety education. Parents and caregivers will learn about common household dangers for infants and children and how to help prevent injuries.

Facility Tour Included
Families who participate in the full prenatal education class series will also receive a tour of the hospital.

When Should You Take the Classes?
We recommend taking the classes between 30 and 36 weeks of pregnancy. Space is limited to allow for more individual attention, so we encourage you to register early to reserve your spot.

Who Needs to Register?
Only the expectant mother needs to register. She may bring one guest.

Jackson North Maternity Unit Tours
Expecting a baby? Join us for a tour of The Women’s Pavilion at Jackson North to learn more about our maternity care areas and what to expect during your hospital stay. Tours are offered every Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m.

Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled tour. Tours begin at the scheduled start time. Tours are offered in English only.
