Preparing for Pregnancy
It’s never too early to start.
Having a healthy baby starts before you become pregnant.
The journey towards your little miracle starts before you even begin trying to conceive.
These steps will help you prepare yourself and your body for pregnancy and give you a better chance of having a healthy baby:
- Get a preconception checkup. At your checkup, share your family health history with your provider, who can help you address and plan for any known risks.
- Take a vitamin supplement with 400 micrograms of folic acid in it each day to help prevent birth defects of the brain and spine.
- Get to a healthy weight before you get pregnant. Eat healthy foods and do something active every day.
- Don’t smoke, drink alcohol, or abuse street or prescription drugs. All of these can harm your baby when you do get pregnant.
